There are movies like Wendy and Lucy that reveal the life of the working poor by reflecting it, and there are some that by dramatizing it, actually reveal a disdain for the same subject by only showing the ugliest side and enforcing stereotypes. I don’t mind movies that delve into the worse aspects of society or don’t have happy endings, but this movie did nothing for me except paint an ugly brush on every character. If I had to summarize Girlfriend in one word, I would use, “Exploitative.”
