I didn’t like it because eXistenZ was too meta for my taste & hit my pretentious button, but intellectually I thought that it was a good, thoughtful movie that deals with reality vs. representations of reality–an important duality that Cronenberg frequently considers. “We’re both stumbling around together in this unformed world, whose rules and objectives are largely unknown, seemingly indecipherable or even possibly nonexistent, always on the verge of being killed by forces that we don’t understand.” Shaggy dog story….literally.
