I really like Jake Gyllenaal and the found footage genre, but I am not a fan of End of Watch. It took almost 60 minutes before the narrative found its focus. I suspect that most people love the film because they actually grew to love the dynamic between the central characters, which I did enjoy, and the ending retroactively made the preceding events more poignant than they actually were. I’m no delicate flower, but even I thought the cursing was a bit excessive, and it was ridiculous to me that every moment of their career was that exciting. I also didn’t buy the found footage premise-how did they get the footage from the barbecue/gangbang hit? By the end, it seemed so excessively unrealistic that I could no longer suspend disbelief. If End of Watch wasn’t part of the found footage genre, I think that I would have enjoyed it more, especially if we just focused on the two central cops, but it is, and it doesn’t. Despite all the action, I thought that the pacing was rather slow. The chase scenes were really well done, but whenever an animal or a person had to run out of the way, I was suitably aghast. I’m going to call BS on the end. No way. No way.
