Apparently quirky was born in Elizabethtown because nothing really quite makes sense in this film & instead of creating semi-believable situations & people with real characteristics & facets, they just substituted it for characters. Americans are kind of clueless when dealing with death–either default to manic humor in face of sadness versus rage/anger/revenge scenarios. Paging French filmmakers. Maybe the film fails with dealing with death because death is just a device used to get Orlando Bloom to Kentucky & theoretically become a better person (last word should be uttered with an upward tilt like a question). To be fair, I’m still stuck on how the shoe wreaked so much havoc for the business-I know that it wasn’t the point, but it is a microcosm for the problems of this whole movie. How can a movie be so superficially interesting and detailed yet reveal nothing? The movie could have worked as a short film by just using the last fifteen minutes to half hour.
