Where to Watch

If you read the description of The Disappearance of McKinley Nolan, you’ll know more about McKinley Nolan than by watching the documentary, which seemed too close to the emotional nerve center of the narrative to tell the story effectively. Sometimes it is good to reflect the journey in the narrative or to just examine pain, but it didn’t work in this scenario. It was just waves of pain and confusion from the filmmaker, the alleged recent eyewitness, the family, the people who knew McKinley Nolan while he was outside of the US, etc. It could have really done some hard work by doing the research to answer why US government refused to find the AWOL soldier. Instead it takes everyone’s account at face value instead of wondering if there were other motives at play as suspected by the family. Also the filmmaker and the alleged eyewitness added to the cacophony and though well-intentioned, inadvertently took away from the story of McKinley Nolan, his family and the possible eyewitnesses outside of US. Disappointing.
