Where to Watch

Compliance is based on real life events. I actually remember when an ABC news program like Primetime Live devoted one hour, including actual surveillance camera footage, to the strip search phone call scam that plagued a fast food restaurant and ended in the victimization of one female employee by her supervisor and her supervisor’s fiancé.
If you remember the same news program, you can probably skip Compliance, which is an excellent dramatization of the same story. If you do not remember this story and are interested in seeing a horrifying real life example of the psychological phenomenon depicted in the Stanford Prison Experiment or Experimenter, then definitely check out Compliance.
Compliance effectively reminds the audience that maybe being an outstanding employee that is good at following instructions is not always a good thing; that being female doesn’t mean that you can’t victimize people; that having a female significant other doesn’t mean that you’re not capable of sexual violence; and that being a young teen male or a disheveled old guy doesn’t mean that you are a sexual predator.
