I wanted to like Coco Before Chanel & at times, I did, but overall a certain je ne said quois was missing. I think that it was the moment that she decided just doing the day job wasn’t good enough any more & she decided to become a mistress. I didn’t find it believable that suddenly at that moment she became desperate when her earlier scenes showed her scoffing at that life. Perhaps loneliness? The film did do a great job in showing how revolutionary her style choices were & establishing the casual cruelty of class. Only in a French movie can a mistress have a lover & her first lover encourage it with painful equanimity. Solid movie, but not a must see.
