Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the rare movie in which the sequel is better than the first movie. I saw the 3D version. If you’ve seen all the previews, watch Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. &/or are familiar with casting, there won’t be many surprises, but regardless of that, it is a solid and enjoyable movie both in terms of character development, future chapters in the Avengers universe and action. Black Widow seemed slightly more fragile in this film than previous ones. The adjustment of most of the characters at the end of the film is surprisingly easier than the Marvel tv franchise. It does not feel long, and when it ended, I did want more. Several friends were emotionally moved to tears. I needed no Kleenex, but I do think that it hit a few solid notes like Skyfall and the recent Bond films regarding issues of trust, security and freedom. A must see for Marvel fans or action movie fans. Most intriguing part of the film: the subtle references to racial, gender and economic dynamics within power structures-just because you’ve made it doesn’t mean you’ve made it.
