Where to Watch

Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony belongs in the same category as documentaries like Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope and Trekkies. The viewers who are interested in this type of documentary are probably already some what intrigued by the subject matter. When I was a kid, I liked getting My Little Pony figures because I would take the tails as colorful extensions for my Barbies and pretend that they were Jem and the Holograms. I knew little to nothing about the show.
Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony can appeal to broader audiences because it directly addresses an important question that affects broader society who have little to no interest in My Little Pony: why are boys/men stigmatized for enjoying a product that is perceived as marketed for girls. Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony has an added bonus of featuring the delightfully charming John de Lancie who makes an effort to bridge the chasm between conservative fathers and their brony offspring.
For me, the most touching segment of Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony was how an autistic boy overcame a lot to attend the convention, and by the end, was the life of the party. And John de Lancie! Despite enjoying parts of Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony, it was the kind of documentary that you can watch while multitasking, and I don’t think that I’ll be checking out My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic anytime soon.
