Perfect movie! What I loved: family wasn’t perfect before the war, but who is. Each character in Broder gets a fair portrayal & their reaction to each other expresses who they are & how emotionally healthy they are, especially with respect to the older daughter. It shows how some things affect you, i.e. how the grandfather’s alcoholism & emotional volatility affect the younger brother at the beginning. Loved how it showed that it’s not about you even if you are at the brunt of someone’s ire–family was not responsible for the older brother’s behavior after he returns from war. How keeping things inside destroys all! Fighting against lowered expectations! Theory/training/discussion versus real life. Nielsen is transcendent–human, understanding, frightened, strong.
