I was so relieved to discover that Brian’s Song was a tv movie because it sure felt like it. I was not impressed. I was amazed that anyone thought it was good, but probably because it was considered revolutionary at the time (a black and white man can be friends) and was based on a real life duo that all the viewers probably admired. I am a sports atheist and was not moved one bit by this dated visual Cliff’s notes. I didn’t feel like I was watching a depiction about two rookie professional football players, but high school or college football players played by grown men. On an unrelated note, a young Billy Dee Williams looks strikingly similar to my dearly departed brother.
