Where to Watch

How can a movie that is clearly bad still be awesome? A very young Barbara Stanwyck and the cast of Banjo on My Knee deserve all the credit because somehow, it all worked. There is random singing that becomes charming. The absurd plot is insane–numerous obstacles stop a married couple from consummating their marriage. I’m pretty sure that the portrayal of Southerners is regionalist (is that a thing?) & may be offensive, but honestly old Hollywood remarriage movies (paging Stanley Cavell) are awesome. The underlying sexual politics is frank & refreshing–old movies are so mature in comparison to their postmodern counterparts.
