I know that all documentaries are really a collection of other people’s view of a person, but I don’t recall a documentary in which the artist’s family so openly & understandably disapproves of or criticizes the subject. Alice Neel felt too short. I wanted to know more about each person featured & it didn’t help that the director is the grandson of the subject. Very tantalizing & interesting, but feels like there is so much more that needed to be explored. The art was almost an afterthought although striking & provocative in its own right.
