The creators of Airport must have realized how stiff it was, decided to take the trope, make it more over the top and made Airport 1975. It is so great: Linda Blair with a singing nun, Gloria Swanson playing herself talking about her glory days, Charlton Heston chewing the scenery. There is so much (hopefully unintentional) racism and sexism that it somehow comes back around to becoming nostalgically fun (like when Spock’s colleagues openly derided him for having pointy ears, told him that he looks like the devil and then laughed). If you’re looking for a throwback Thursday movie that is so bad that it is good, Airport 1975 is a must see!
