Whenever a celebrity dies, I have a tendency to reconnect with them by moving all their movies up in my queue or in Joan Rivers’ case, discovering that she wrote a bunch of books and borrowing all of them as they become available at the library. I had no idea that Joan Rivers wrote books, and even though I was looking for her more autobiographical books, she did not limit herself to that genre. Don’t Count the Candles: Just Keep the Fire Lit! is a self-help book for older women on how to live a rich life and not stay secluded and alone at home frozen in time like a fossil in amber. Don’t Count the Candles: Just Keep the Fire Lit! is filled with one liners and is incredibly short (just over two hundred pages), but it has moments of wisdom and insight into how Joan Rivers stayed mostly relevant and survived all these years. Not a must read, but you can hear her voice.
