Where to Watch

Do NOT watch this craptacular remake. In first 15 minutes of Coma (2012), 3 people die-2 violently & one of 2 by suicide (did I mention that it is a Scott brothers production). Chaos cinema at its most insipid & incredulous. A med student on her first rotation miraculously knows more than doctors training her, is shown to be caring by holding her head to the side and just being with sick people and her inexperience is shown by being clumsy (oops, I keep dropping needles). The story is unfocused and keeps shifting to follow different characters while revealing nothing interesting or unique about them. There is a vague allusion to slavery & legacy of evil towards human beings passed down by forefathers which was tacked on as a seeming afterthought. A wasted talented cast. The dialogue is ridiculous with people constantly discussing what doctors SHOULD do. Everyone is vaguely sinister, and even when the conspiracy is revealed, it is unclear what the point of it was. Toss in a serial killer and a sinister Nina Sharpe ripoff as played by Ellen Burstyn & you’ve got a cinematic sign that if the world ends, at least they won’t keep remaking good movies. Watch the original, which is a brilliant character study, good story and has a deeper sociological/feminist meaning!
