Around The Way Girl: A Memoir

Biography & Autobiography

Author: Taraji P. Henson, Denene Millner

Publish Date: 04/07/2017

Around The Way Girl: A Memoir by Taraji P. Henson is a must read memoir for fans and aspiring actors. Around The Way Girl: A Memoir details Henson’s life as a woman navigating numerous class, societal and psychological challenges and coming out on the other side triumphant, talented and beautiful. Around The Way Girl: A Memoir is very conscious of how society views someone in her situation then compares and contrasts Henson’s reality with the stigma of being a single mother, being in an abusive relationship, being the child of a divorced couple, living in poverty in a crime infested neighborhood.
Around The Way Girl: A Memoir is a thematic narrative about surviving and is a nod of gratitude to the family, friends and colleagues who helped her along the way. Around The Way Girl: A Memoir reveals that while Henson may not be a natural writer or storyteller, but she is a thoughtful actor who is very immersed in her craft and a savvy entertainer who understands how to get to the intersection of art and success, which do not always correlate.
I enjoyed reading Around The Way Girl: A Memoir because I have always admired Henson for her talent and beauty. The only reason that I started watching Empire was Because Henson stars in the TV series and no other TV series before Empire interested me. (I did watch Boston Legal, but she did not have a big role.) Around The Way Girl: A Memoir may have convinced me to give Tyler Perry a chance! I loved her in Hidden Figures, and I hope that she gets even more opportunities to shine.
