Where to Watch

Sometimes bad acting is so bad & a script can be so anachronistic, but earnest and emotionally accurate that I ended up loving The Book of Ruth: Journey of Faith despite its many flaws. The book of Ruth is one of my favorite books in the Bible for various reasons so despite a lack of truly deep theological understanding of this book, I felt like the movie hit enough right notes to make it a passable and in many ways enjoyable film to watch for Christian families, especially those who remember the Christian pop star, Carmen! The framing device of the story shows some theological understanding & clever foretelling of other pivotal stories to peak viewers’ interests. High praise for taking our community to task for not being sensitive and generous enough to immigrants and outsiders and showing that the Biblical model is the opposite. Deals with spiritual doubts and societal judgment among believers so applause for not sanitizing issues that people confront in Christian communities. I wouldn’t pay serious money, but it is worth what little time it takes to watch.
