Poster of Wildflower

Wildflower

If you are a Drew Barrymore fan, you should definitely check out her memoir, Wildflower. Although her narrative is not linear, Wildflower is thematically clear, and Barrymore shows excellent dexterity at picking up divergent threads without confusing the reader. I could easily imagine Barrymore’s voice as I read Wildflower.
Barrymore is a survivor and a Hollywood veteran so she is an excellent raconteur. Wildflower reflects her positive and empowering outlook even in some tales of her wild youthful exploits. Barrymore compares and contrasts her more mature outlook when she looks back at her exuberant past. She is self-deprecating and critical of herself, but gracious, understanding and forgiving though still firm in her version of the truth when speaking of others.
Barrymore focuses on her personal and professional life so you will get an interesting perspective on what it is like to be in front of and behind the camera. I highly recommend Drew Barrymore’s Wildflower as a quick and enjoyable read that will leave you feeling inspired instead of depressed by all the twists and turns of her life.
