The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975

Documentary, History

Director: Göran Hugo Olsson

Release Date: April 1, 2011

Where to Watch

Even though the majority of the documentary focuses on Black Panthers, The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975 is really about the development of a different arm of the civil rights movement with a dash of conspiracy theory–that drugs were introduced in the black community in order to stop the tide of activism. Particularly germane in light of the Occupy movement–basically same issues. And this film was made by Swedish journalists! I could have done without the Farrakhan segment considering his involvement in Malcolm X’s death–based on his words in various speeches. He doesn’t deserve to be placed in the same group as most of these people.
