I saw Hitman: Agent 47, realized it was a reboot and decided to watch its predecessor, Hitman. What a mistake! Hitman makes Hitman: Agent 47 seem like an award-winning film, but note that I have never played the video game. I realized that I made a mistake about five to ten minutes in. If I was not a completist, I would have turned Hitman off, but instead I suffered through the entire 100 minutes. Don’t be like me!
Hitman is nothing but an empty action film with disappointing gender norms. Most of the women in Hitman are prostitutes who find it incredibly challenging to wear clothes, and most of the men love to abuse or kill them. The action sequences did nothing for me. I was not invested in the outcome of the plot or any of the characters. The minute that Dougray Scott appeared, I should have run the other way. He is not a bad actor, but he rarely appears in good films. I was happy to see Robert Knepper and Henry Ian Cusick, but because they were spouting some dreadful Russian accents, it was bittersweet. Unlike Rupert Friend, Timothy Olyphant never convinced me he was a nameless assassin with no personal life-too much swagger, not dead enough in the eyes. He seemed more like a typical American action hero who happens to be celibate.
Hitman: Agent 47 may not be original, but it was at least an interesting film to watch. Hitman is not worth the DVD it was stored on. Skip it!
