I wanted to read Another Bullshit Night in Suck City: A Memoir because I loved the movie, Being Flynn, starring Paul Dano and Robert DeNiro. Another Bullshit Night in Suck City: A Memoir is the first of three memoirs by Nick Flynn, a poet from Massachusetts, and I am so excited to read the other two. Another Bullshit Night in Suck City: A Memoir is so beautiful that I hope an English teacher somewhere out there has made it required reading for students. Another Bullshit Night in Suck City: A Memoir is prose poetry, pure literature and a work of art that is a riveting read and a great story. Another Bullshit Night in Suck City: A Memoir is about Nick Flynn’s life, his immediate relatives and relationships and his father’s. The story is not told linearly and never gets confusing. Another Bullshit Night in Suck City: A Memoir examines tenderly and unflinchingly mental illness, alcoholism, criminal acts and dissolute lifestyles. Nick Flynn takes life at the edges and gives it center stage with the epic grandeur of a Biblical epic. Another Bullshit Night in Suck City: A Memoir takes the familiar and ignored and embodies it in a unique, dignified and haunted voice that seeks to escape the gravitational pull of genetic fate. Flynn gives equal weight to delusions and truth while not rushing to sort and separate the one from the other. Another Bullshit Night in Suck City: A Memoir is a perfect American book that should be read by all.
