I feel like Get Over It was trying to be a more overtly Shakespearian Clueless meets Savage Steve Holland, but it ended up being background tv and failed to fully capture my attention. I think that Get Over It lacked a strong central character to be sympathetic with. Other than being dumped by his girlfriend, we don’t know anything about his ambitions or what he loves to do. The main character of Get Over It pretends to enjoy doing something so he can win back his high school sweetheart for the duration of the film. It isn’t enough to be unlucky and a klutz, Get Over It. One Crazy Summer’s main character was a passionate cartoonist, and Better Off Dead’s main character was a skiing enthusiast. A love life is only one aspect of a person’s life. Get Over It portrays the main character as a basketball player, but other than him constantly getting trounced on the court and mentioning it, I would not have believed that was what he really cared about. Also Get Over It didn’t really try to draw strong parallels with A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which seems like a missed opportunity, but only left me wondering if I remember the play accurately. Get Over It has notable appearances by such currently famous actors as Zoe Saldana and Mila Kunis. If you’re into teenage rom coms with a quirky sensibility, check out Get Over It, but I wish that I skipped it even though I enjoyed the music.
