Where to Watch

Love Story isn’t that good of a story, but it is fun to glance at for the filming locations: Harvard campus and NYC in the 70s. Even though Love Story is not a long movie, it feels tedious as it speeds through the characters’ lives at a whirlwind pace, but the two are less people than archetypes. Even when tragedy strikes, Love Story feels like a Camille ripoff with its image of picturesque healthy suffering. If tragedy had not struck, divorce would have because other than profanity, the wife has completely disappeared as a person, but resembles a giving tree. The only Love Story character that felt real was the wife’s father: he is puzzled by his daughter’s behavior, but he finds harmony with it and hopes for the best while retaining his own personality. I would rather have dinner with him than those two self-important automatons who treat life like an achievement scavenger hunt.
