Where to Watch

I want to live in a world where people know what to do with Parker Posey, but instead I live in this one so I watched And Now a Word from Our Sponsor, which casts her as a widow/head of a hospital charity with a penchant for advertising/mom of a sullen teen. Like The Love Guide, it dabbles with magical realism when a patient, Adan (GET IT), a former head of an ad agency, emerges from a coma unable to speak in anything other than commercial slogans, which is supposed to be a wacky sign of enlightenment instead of an annoying gimmick that is tiresome from the outset, especially since no one explicitly notes this affliction until a half hour into the movie. Unlike The Love Guide, even Parker Posey and other great actors like Bruce Greenwood or Callum Blue cannot save this movie. Adan is a magical figure that somehow resolves all relational and internal conflicts while wearing wacky shirts once owned by Posey’s husband. The resolution seems unearned and random, especially for Blue’s character, the ambitious, callous younger exec who wants Adan’s company. Whatever-just save yourself a 90 minute viewing that feels like an eternity and skip it.
