Where to Watch

Katy Perry: Part of Me is basically an autobiography meets infomercial meets preaching to the choir of fans. I like some of Perry’s songs, but I came for the dirt on what happened between her and Russell Brand. I stayed for the interesting story of how she got famous-basically she inspired a woman to steal some of Perry’s work and jump ship to another label because Perry wasn’t getting a fair shake. I found the journey to fame aspect more interesting than the daily life of a pop star on tour-she is such a hard worker, amazing friend, sister, woman, etc. I get it! Without her, you wouldn’t have a job doing what you love. I’d love her too. Katy Perry: Part of Me is not a must see except if you LOVE her. If someone provided a viewing guide regarding when to hit play and when to hit fast forward so you can just stick to the pre-fame bits, then I would recommend it to anyone trying to make it in the music business. Side note: it took watching Katy Perry for 95 minutes to realize that she often visually references Bettie Paige, which is actually brilliant considering their backgrounds and beliefs. Duh!
