The One I Love is part of a welcome new day in film where sci-fi meets matters of the heart during an existential crisis. The One I Love is an independent film with a surprising premise that succeeds in tackling subjects that Solaris and Oblivion failed to thoroughly address, but The One I Love fails where those films succeed. Ultimately I would prefer if the filmmakers know HOW the premise happened even if it isn’t shared explicitly with the viewers. Perhaps if they had consulted with Duncan Jones, it would have been perfect. The One I Love would not work without the solid acting by Mark Duplass and Elisabeth Moss. The One I Love is a must see for people who don’t mind a bit of surrealism and lack of answers in their movies. You won’t be bored. Don’t try and find spoilers-it will ruin your experience.
