I initially found Bachelorette’s characters credibly awful in their prejudices, vices and self-loathing, but as the plot bowed to sitcom convention, and each woman gets paired off with a guy-either temporarily or permanently, I became disinterested. Bachelorette boasts a great cast, but I wish that it had stuck to its trenchant course instead of taking individual humanizing detours to get me to sympathize with each character. I would rather be interested in a realistic character than sympathize with them. At least James Marsden didn’t play a cuckold and had some fun. Hurrah for brief appearance by June Diane Raphael. Side note: now I know who Rebel Wilson is so thank you! Kudos to whoever designed the dress worn by Kristen Dunst for the majority of the film.
