Before November 3, 2011, if I wanted to watch a TV show that aired on the CW, formerly the WB, I had the following options: watch it live, watch it on the CW webpage on my computer or record it on my VCR or DVD recorder. I do not have cable, On Demand or a DVR. On November 3, 2011, I discovered that the CW and Hulu would team up, and I could finally watch CW shows on my TV, not with the hiccups of computer viewing, which include no high definition quality. Unfortunately, this year the CW and Hulu terminated their agreement because the CW launched an app, which is not available on my Samsung Smart TV. The CW app is available on my Kindle Fire and iPhone. I have an iPhone, but I don’t want to buy an Apple TV device to plug into my Samsung Smart TV.
I can’t go back to the technical difficulties of watching it on a computer, which is what happened when I used the app on my Kindle Fire and connected it to my Samsung Smart TV. So I will no longer be watching most CW shows as they are aired, which is particularly disappointing now that Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow are in the same universe AND the same network. I have been watching Supernatural since 2005, and while the show should have ended a long time ago, it is weird not to watch it as it unfolds. The real test will be when The 100 returns in 2017. I will probably try to watch it live or may give Amazon Instant Video my money if that is an option. I know that these aren’t real problems, but these are the failures of The CW, Hulu and Samsung Smart TV.
