Parks and Recreation didn’t start strong. The series had the same format as popularized by The Office: a fake documentary that takes place in a branch of local government instead of a private company. Initially the characters seemed just as egotistical and ineffective as Michael Scott, but as the series progressed, Parks and Recreations found its heart. The series captured a real life phenomenon: how disparate people brought together by the circumstance and habit of employment then become closer, accomplish things and love each other over time. Like Parenthood, I love the characters like they’re real people and ration the show so I can find out what will happen in one sitting. Next season will be the last season of Parks and Recreations and Parenthood. I plan to wail and wear sackcloth soon after they end.
