Duma Key

Stephen King’s Duma Key is an enjoyable read, but it feels more like a draft than a finished product. Usually when I read a King novel, I can clearly picture the characters in their surroundings in my head, but as I reached the denouement, the description of the location was not detailed enough. Most of the action occurs away from the main character, which is fine, but led me to believe that King would have preferred to write about healing and dumped the supernatural stuff at the end with less integration throughout the story. The antagonist, though rooted in established myth, seemed to be as much a mystery to King as the characters. I think that King should have kept Duma Key a bit longer before turning it over to the editors.
