Because Hyde Park on the Hudson is supposed to be based on Daisy’s private papers, the movie makers probably felt compelled to focus on her, but there are two distinct movies in one. Her story isn’t the more interesting one-for a sexual affair, it was very antiseptic & distant instead of tasteful & implied, which may be what the movie was trying to accomplish. I preferred the story that dealt with the clash/melding of cultures & FDR mentoring the newly crowned King before the outbreak of WWII. Even though I love Olivia Colman, I kept thinking of Helena Bonham Carter’s take on Queen Elizabeth in The King’s Speech. Bill Murray is wonderful, and who knew that Olivia Williams would make a great Eleanor Roosevelt. The British are taking our jobs!
