This movie has appeared on enough vampire movie lovers’ lists that I felt obligated to see this cult favorite, but Subspecies did nothing for me. Yes, Radu is an excellent modern mash up of Nosferatu and Dracula, but the dated special effects and acting were dreadful. The power struggle story line held no interest for me, and there was no freshness in the cliche story line: three college girls doing research and unwittingly discovering that *gasp* vampires are real. I liked the idea of the historic conflict between Romania and Turkey as being resolved by vampires, but other than a backstory, wasn’t really brought to life.
