Where to Watch

Disney’s marketing touted The Princess and the Frog as the first Disney film that focused on an African-American character. The African-American heroine is an African-African human being for a small percentage of the film & a frog for the majority of the film. How groundbreaking! Otherwise it is usual traditional Disney fare & nothing too special here. Instead of fairy godmother versus witches, it is Mama Odie versus Dr. Facilier, voodoo practitioners. Christians were angry about elements of black magic, but in my book, no such thing as good magic so they need to protest Disney as a whole. Whatever. I care more about the frog to black people representation ratio & am still not impressed.
