Where to Watch

I would rather that a movie start slow & have a beautiful ending than vice versa. Initially, Land of Plenty feels a bit too political as opposed to human. It feels random & scattered as we focus on two odd but otherwise unremarkable people who live amidst the psychological & physical ruins of impoverished LA post-9/11/01. Every person is the star of their own movie, but when the two disparate characters come together, their movies merge & each other’s reality begins to heal the other’s respective wounds. The end is quite touching while not being schmaltzy & artificially contrived. Also this movie correctly portrays what devout Christians actually act like unlike some movies that just having a Christian parent & wearing a cross is sufficient (I’m looking at you Ridley Scott & Damon Lindehof. Stupid Prometheus.)
